Instructions For Coffee Or Licorice Root Enemas
Enemas are great tools to have in your healthcare toolbox.
Often misused and misunderstood, just mentioning them often triggers a reaction in people. At one end of the spectrum a person may be obsessive and over use enemas, leaving the colon weakened, and at the other end a person may have an extreme phobia of enemas that keeps them from utilizing a very powerful therapy.
Enemas can effectively lower high fevers in colds and diseases. In this case, a quick enema–low retention–is used rather than the high retention enema that is recommended for fasting. I am very cautious in recommending enemas for children with regards to not wanting to traumatize them. It might be more appropriate to use foods and herbs to purge the bowels in this case.
For cleansing and detoxification diets, we use high retention enemas to both remove physical blockages and to aid the liver to release and clear out toxins and impurities that we’ve gathered through our diets and living environments and have been storing over the years. Huh, how? We’re cleaning the colon, how does that get into the liver?
First the enema solution enters our system directly from the colon into the middle and lower hemorrhoidal veins. The solution is also absorbed into the lymphatic system through the lymph nodes located along the rectal tract. One of the primary functions of the lymphatic system is to absorb fats and oils throughout the body. It then transports them to the liver where they are stored. This tends to be a primary problem in Americans as we over consume fats and oils, our livers and gallbladders get bogged down and you might start making stones–I’m sure a number of you are familiar with this problem. Anyway, I digressed. The solution is moved to the liver, the bile duct and liver branches and tributaries via the portal vein.
Once there, the solution becomes part of cytoplasm of the liver cells and starts to aid the liver in breaking down and decomposing fats and wastes. These wastes along with the coffee or licorice solution are then passed to the bile ducts for excretion via the right and left hepatic ducts. The solution also passes through the gall bladder and stimulates the release of bile. Cleaning things up!

General enema directions
Create your space. You are going to be laying on the floor for a while, so you will want to make sure you are comfortable and not going to be disturbed. Make sure you have something to read or watch, the space is warm and comfortable.
Prepare the enema solution of your choice–coffee or licorice in this case. There are a number of herbal enemas recipes available too.
After cooling the liquid, pour into the enema bag and hang it approximately 2 feet above the floor. Place a towel on the floor and lie on your left side.
Insert the nozzle into the rectum and make sure you are comfortable. Release the valve, allowing the liquid to flow into your colon slowly. Slowly…..
You may feel some cramping, discomfort or a desire to defecate. Slow or pass the flow of the solution by using the valve and give yourself a moment to breathe and relax.
Ideally, try to take in the whole quart of solution, which may take some time. Slow is better here.
Lie on your left side with your knees drawn up toward your chest for 10 minutes, then on your back for 10 minutes and finally on your right side for 10 minutes.
Now sit on the toilet with your feet on a small stool (6-9 inches high) and allow the toxins to be eliminated. Massage your large intestine by starting from the lower right side of your abdomen just above the hipbone, and moving up to just under your rib cage. Then move across your body to the left side and down to the left hipbone. Finally, move towards the pubic bone. Repeat several times. This helps relax the colon and reduce any cramping that you may experience.
