The 12 Court Officials In Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine is poetic. An excellent example of this can be seen in an overview of the organs, channels, and their roles as court officials.

Heart is the Emperor (King) and is the source of Shen and clear sight.

Kidneys are the ministers of health and strengthen the body and control the waterways.

Lungs are the minister to the Emperor and receive the pure Qi of Heaven.

Liver is the general in charge of vision, planning and strategy.

Gallbladder is the judge in charge of wise discernment and courage.

Pericardium is the messenger to the Emperor and helps to protect it.

Spleen is the grainary official in charge of transformation & transportation.

Stomach is the grainary official in charge of the rotting and ripening of foods.

Small Intestines are the receiving officials in charge of separating the pure from the impure.

Large Intestines is the official in charge of the drainage.

San Jiao is in charge of irrigation and water channels, balances the body and creates harmony.

Bladder is the minor district official that controls the drain ditch.
