Pumpkin Spice Recipe

Pumpkin pie spice is simply a mixture of our most beloved warming, sweet, and drying spices. It’s easy to put together yourself whether you use ready ground herbs or grind them yourself and it makes a wonderful, sustainable holiday gift! (Please get fair trade, ethically sourced, and sustainable spices.)

The usual combination for pumpkin pie spice is cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cloves and nutmeg.  Some varieties may exclude either cloves or nutmeg, some add in star anise. It’s up to you.

The average recipe combines the spices in a ratio with cinnamon as the dominate spice.  For example: to 1 tsp. of cinnamon, you would add 1/2 tsp. of ginger, 1/2 tsp. of allspice and 1/4 tsp. of nutmeg and cloves each.
