Baked Figs With Goat Cheese And Honey

Figs come into season in the late fall and early winter.  I love figs, and although they are not a native food to Idaho, I do indulge in some fresh figs every year.  This is a very simple and delightful part of a winter breakfast or as an appetizer at a party.

Ingredients

  • 12 whole figs

  • 6-8 Tbsp organic honey, I am partial to honey with floral notes like lavender

  • 6-8 Tbsp goat's cheese

  • Nuts, seeds, or a minced watercress for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°.

  2. Trim stalks off of figs and slice each fig in half. Arrange figs, open side up, in a shallow baking dish.

  3. Place about 1 Tbsp of goat's cheese on each fig. Drizzle them lightly with honey. Cover figs and cook for about 10-15 minutes until figs become fragrant and their juice begins to flow. Remove figs from oven — enjoy warm.

A Quick Side Step

Don’t have fresh figs around? Stock up with some figgy jam. Spread the goat cheese over a nice sourdough bread, spread on the jam, and thin sliced apples, drizzle with a bit of honey and broil for a few minutes. Makes a wonderful, easy dinner or snack after a busy day of running around.

Recipe Notes

This recipe is overall sweet and warming.  Figs, rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals are very Blood building and nourishes Yin.

Primary season: Autumn and Winter.

Enjoy!
