Amma Therapy

Amma therapy is a classical Asian bodywork style that predates acupuncture. Amma, literally push-pull, is the oldest known Chinese words to describe bodywork. Highly specialized, Amma combines deep rhythmic, circular digital pressure and acupressure point stimulation with Asian medical principles for accessing and treating imbalances in the energy system. Like acupuncture and other Asian bodywork forms, Amma focuses on the balance and movement of Qi (energy) within the body. The acupuncturist inserts needles into the energy pathways to stimulate and move the energy, while the Amma practitioner relies on sensitivity and strength of the hands to manipulate the client's Qi. Treatment is individualized addressing each person's specific needs. For example, a client with fibromyalgia, organ transplants or in cancer treatment may need a very gentle treatment compared to the depth and vigor of treatment that an athlete can handle. We have to meet each client where they are at and then work to reach or maintain health. Some practitioners specialize and work with only certain clients, however, Amma can be used for all ages and all stages of health. Sessions often include nutritional, herbal and life style recommendations. Gua sha and fire cupping are adjunct therapies that can be included in Amma sessions or requested as a separate session.

Covid, Monkey Pox and other communicable diseases.

For my hands-on practice, I need to make sure I, my clients and my community are safe. I am fully vaccinated for Covid and available to treat others who are also vaccinated. While I understand that some people may have reasons to not vaccinate, I ask that you not book without first speaking to me. I will continue to wear masks for the time being and ask the same of my clients. We are in close contact, the risk may be greatly reduced, but it’s not gone. It is standard protocol for touch therapy practitioners to not treat those who have an unknown, and possibly communicable disease. While Monkey Pox may not pose a huge threat in our community, I am paying attention to current information. I am open for online consultations for those living out of the area or if you are ill and it’s not safe to treat you in person. Thank you.
