Rich, fragrant and comforting, pumpkin butter is welcome food at my breakfast table. It truly requires very little work and when made with fresh pumpkin or squash its color can vary. Leave it’s flavor as is or add pumpkin spice to your liking.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups pumpkin puree or own or you can use pumpkin pack from a can
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1/2 cup maple syrup I don't like my pumpkin butter overly sweet, so feel free to add more if desired
- 1 Tbsp pumpkin pie spice I make my own mix. See below
Servings: servings
Instructions
- In a large saucepan combine the pumpkin, cider syrup and spice.
- Bring to a boil, stirring gently. Reduce heat, taste the mixture and add more syrup or spice to your taste. Simmer about 30 minutes until mixture thickens.
- Pour mixture into sterile containers. Serve fresh or chill until serving. Store in refrigerator. Pumpkin butter freezes and cans well - great for gifts.
