Did you know that everything you eat creates a post metabolic phenomenon in the body? They heat, cool or maintain a neutral temperature. They may rise or descend the energy in the body, and they all move to specific organs to nourish them. For example, onions are warming and their pungent flavor aids digestion and removes phlegm. Seaweeds are cooling and their salty flavor aids the Kidneys and nourishes Yin making it great for those who are excessively hot.
This class will introduce participants to principles of Holistic Nutrition and the concept of the energetic nature of foods according to Chinese medicine.
What we will cover–
The principles of Holistic Nutrition.
The energetic temperature of foods.
The energetic direction of foods and which organs they enter.
The 5 Flavors and how they help or hinder the body.
You don’t have to be overwhelmed with food, we need to be flexible and enjoy, but having simple pragmatic knowledge of how to eat to best benefit you in times of health or illness–is just awesome. Freezing in winter? Eat a root vegetable stew with a few warm pungents rather than raw leafy greens..
There is no prerequisite for this class.
